Ok... I may have been skimping on information there - I had mungwall
and some other debug stuff running too.

Strange. The problems I had were with an IDE drive - I tried every
possible software combination (e.g. direct SCSI with the OS3.9
scsi.device, direct+normal with the idefix scsi.device, etc) and the result
was always the same. I even tried it after booting with no
startup-sequence. I have also heard from others who have had problems
getting >4Gb PFS3 partitions formatted. All I know for sure is that the
hits definitely came from within the PFS3 code.
